Is it a front-end developer, front-end designer, front-end engineer or a UI/UX Developer??? Are these all the same thing? What should they know?

I have been all of these and I still am confused. So I took to the web:

A Baseline for Front-End Developers.

Skills for Front-End Developers

What does a front-end web developer do?

10 “Must-have” skills for Front-End Developers (2009)

Front-end Job Interview Questions

It is an IE attached behavior which, when applied to an element, allows IE to recognize and display a number of CSS3 properties.

Basically it is a “fix” for IE browsers that don’t support some of the fancy new CSS3 elements.

As this was up on my browser, one of my coworkers who had tried it, immediately said “sucks”. I asked him to elaborate and he said it is half-way decent, but is not fool-proof. It doesn’t function perfectly and some things are basically ignored.

I would still use Modernizr, but I will at least give this a test try.

CSS Frameworks, preprocessors & boilerplates oh my!

CSS Frameworks, preprocessors & boilerplates oh my!:
Linking to a page of links? yup.

Animate.css

Animate.css:
A humungous CSS page with pretty much all the different types of CSS3 Animations possible. It is a true compiler for JavaScript. Instead of compiling from a source language to machine code, it compiles from JavaScript to better JavaScript. It parses your JavaScript, analyzes it, removes dead code and rewrites and minimizes what’s left. It also checks syntax, variable references, and types, and warns about common JavaScript pitfalls.

AKA it makes ugly giant code into pretty little snippets that reduces space. A place where visitors or guest can just leave a quick audio comment or a greeting.

A few years ago, SnapVine was the place to go. People could actually phone in to your (your account had it’s own phone number!) or record from a webcam ir mic and send you message and leave it on your SnapVince account. You could easily screen the messages and also embed a player on your site!

Sadly SnapVine is no more, and I’ve now come into a use for such a service. So time to Googly Moogly!

Chirbit - Recognizes itself as the app that continued where SnapVine left off. Infact it’s like a 1000 times better. Not just recording voices, you can upload up to 120mb as well as extract from Youtube and much more. This seems like the perfect audio voicemail for any site/profile.

Approved files are not just wav and mp3 but also mobile files such as 3gp and amr. So you can record on your smartphone and then upload it later.

Speakpipe - Let’s visitors leave a message on your site, blog, WP (a slew of Social Media sites) via their webcam or computer mic. It has drops an overlay in the middle of teh screen when clicked on a trigger button. Other than on their site, I have not seen it in use, but it’s worth a try.

Those are the only 2 I found that are worth my time.

RIP SnapVine:

The problem is that there is an internal version of Flash within Chrome and the native Flash on your system. Platform irrelevant. The 2 Flash instances are conflicting.

HISSS!!) after the trial ended, my internet on my Vista went KAPUTSKI!

Norton is such a nag, that when the trial ends (a trial that is so intrusive I actually agreed to by accidental clicking) the only options they give you are a) RENEW (and pay) NOW or b) Remind Me Later. There is no “No I don’t want this invasive program” option.

So now when I uninstalled I no longer can connect to my wireless and even more insanely stranger I can’t connect to my CABLED connection. I literally am plugged in and no internet (only “local access”) as well some strange new “Unnamed connection” is now showing up.

Apparently a bunch of others have had this horrible craptard (it’s my word, but it fits) issue. Here are their solutions and tips.

Uninstalled norton on Vista laptop now no internet

…Internet was working fine before the uninstall, the connection is still there but I can’t browse the internet anymore.

If i click diagnose the connection problem the computer says the connection is fine but i still can’t browse the internet…

I got it to work, i missed a piece of norton when i did the add/remove programs. Once removed the other piece and rebooted i could get back on the internet.

Norton has 2 programs, I removed both of them and now things are working fine. also has to do this. Repair and Reset Windows Vista TCP/IP Winsock Catalog Corruption » My Digital Life

Apparently there is a tool on Norton that does the trick. I actually used the “Unistall Norton…” utility that was installed. I assumed that meant it I dunno .. uninstalled Norton. My bad for thinking a program does what it says.

So far through various forum searching, the solution is to either comb through the computer searching for Norton nomads and zap them and/or go to Norton’s site (on another computer) and download the fix to USB stick and try to make that work.

Will update later once I try this.

UPDATE: Use this Norton Removal Tool - It removes all that crap and immediately restores internet back after a restart!

I BOYCOTT NORTON AND SYMANTEC products from now on. Shame on ISPs such as Rogers to push it upon users.

90s kids 20 year prediction of our Internet dependance is eerily...

90s kids 20 year prediction of our Internet dependance is eerily correct!

Even More Jquery Snippets

Today on the Magnet Minute, Amy Schmittauer reviews some of the most popular social video apps, including Socialcam, Viddy, Keek, and Tout.

Smile, Shake and Tout?

There are a billion Social Networks for desktop or mobile… and here are 4 more.

Like most social sites pics and vids are the main focal point in these 4. I actually found out about them via this Wired article about Flickr’s engagement problems. Which is probably not gonna help since it just introduced me to 3 OTHER networks.

MlkShk - Seems to be a Tumblr clone … or Tumblr lite.

Save, Share & Discover

Easily save images from everywhere on the web. The silly ones, the sweet ones. The cool ones. The gross ones. Then share them with your friends and family.

Likelihood that I will sign up: Maybe.

500px - Is like an exclusive Flickr just for your ‘artsy’ or supremely awesome photographs. If you want ideas for wallpapers or just really amazing looking HD photos, this is the place.

Show & tell.

See beautiful shots from all over the world — then add your own. Become part of a friendly and helpful community of professionals and enthusiasts. Beginner or expert, you’re welcome here.

Likelihood that I will sign up: Most Def.

Path - Mobile app available for iPhone & Android. This is what a FB Mobile app should be like. It has pretty much everything every mobile app has ever tried (FourSquare, Instagram and FB Timeline included) but with much better privacy options.

Path is the smart journal that helps you share life with the ones you love.

Likelihood that I will sign up: Meh - Yup. So I guess maybe.

The last of the 4 didn’t come from that article. It came from the marketing barrage WWE (yes Wrestling) has dropped all over it’s media entities. In fact it has such a major role in this launch, talent meeting include how to use the app and encourages it to the point of demanding they use it.

Tout - Mobile app (iPhone & Android) that lets you record 15 second videos.

Tout is a social media platform that allows users to shoot 15-second video status updates via smartphones and webcams. Touts are shared real-time and automatically to Tout.com, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, SMS and email contacts. Through Tout’s reply feature, users can engage in Tout conversations.

Tout is breaking new ground by combining social networking with the power of video to deliver a revolutionary, conversational experience for users, celebrities, and brands.

Celebs they have a plenty - not just pretty much the entire WWE roster, but also Shaq Diesel, (Live with) Kelly Ripa, Jeff Probst and even Ryan Seacrest. Ironically their “about us” page lists celebs and brands like ESPN and CBS but no mention of WWE or any wrestlers save for The Rock .. who is now more Hollywood than wrestling associated now.

Likelihood that I will sign up: ahem … in honor of Daniel Bryan - YES! YES! YES!
